bhadralok and chotolok—literally respectable people and small people. The bhadraloks, who were generally the higher caste, were refined and cultured. They valued education, attended college and refrained from manual labor. Chotoloks came from low caste (and poor Muslims) and took part only in menial jobs. They were simply paying for the mistakes of their previous life.
