In the 1990s, the Israel lobby was buttressed in the US by a new movement of Jewish intellectuals – the neo-conservative movement, or neocons. Unlike mainstream American Jews, who are liberal and back the Democratic Party, neocons tend to be conservative in their social values and often support the Republican Party.
