Sorry if I’m distant. I just saw the Flying Dutchman rising out of the sea.
“Remember the mermaid story? And the curse?” He paused and took a step toward me. He leaned in, his lips mere centimeters from my ear. He tickled my earlobes with his whispers. “What if I told you, it was all true? What if I told you that I’m one of those cursed to die at sea every day for eternity?”
“I’ve been dead for 300 years, Katrina.”
“Well, you never really can trust a pirate. But right now, you have no choice.
Down by the shore Meet me once more By the light of the moon Love me, then leave me With the dawn rising Haunt me forevermore
He was dangerous, but I had never felt safer than when I was with him. He was dead, but I’d never felt more alive than when he touched me. He was temporary, and yet nothing else had ever felt so permanent. “But what good is the promise of a pirate?” I asked, the edges of my lips forming a smirk. “A pirate's word is everything when it involves his treasure,” he whispered, leaning closer to me. Treasure?
“Can you feel me?” I asked. “Almost.” he breathed. “And it’s enough.” “Enough for what?” “To make me want you.”
“In another life, I have no doubt you could have been mine, Katrina. But fate has decided against us.”
“Katrina, I’d die a thousand deaths over again if it meant I could be with you. You’re the one I’d endure hell over and over again for. You are the one that I can’t stop seeing when I look up at the night sky. You are the first thing that guides me when the tide rises. You are my North Star.”
“If I could only put you in the sky where you belong, starlight,”
“There are so many things on my mind I wouldn’t know where to begin to describe them. But you don’t have to be jealous.” “How can I not? Any pirate worth his salt will steal another man’s treasure without hesitation.” “Well good thing for you I am not a treasure to be stolen. I’ll give my heart to who I want.” “Then I pray I am the one you choose, my star.”
“It is not suffering to know you.”
With the moon you shall rise, As the night calls the tide. By day, bound to the depths Forevermore this curse shall be kept Lest to the depths is returned What was taken; the last of her.
“I will always find my way back to you, Katrina. My North Star.” He left me no time to respond.
