We were two broken hearts, both fated to a dismal end, and I had accepted mine by now.
but I, on the other hand, felt like a square peg in a round hole in these places.
"Who do you think pulled you out of that rip current?" His demeanor became more serious as my breath caught in my chest at the revelation. “When I saw this picture, I realized that you might be in possession of something that is putting you in serious danger. Now I know my suspicions are true.”
“Remember the mermaid story? And the curse?” He paused and took a step toward me. He leaned in, his lips mere centimeters from my ear. He tickled my earlobes with his whispers. “What if I
told you, it was all true? What if I told you that I’m one of those cursed to die at sea every day for eternity?”
“I don’t know who Jack Sparrow is, but that was what I happened to be wearing 300 years ago when the ship went down. Unfortunately, eternal damnation didn’t come with a wardrobe selection.”
As if he was about to pet a wild animal, he cautiously placed his hand over my ankle.
Down by the shore Meet me once more By the light of the moon Love me, then leave me With the dawn rising Haunt me forevermore
but then his wonder turned to confusion as he watched Johnny Depp’s iconic scene as Captain Jack singing about his jar of dirt.
“Harsh? Maybe so. But it’s a pirate’s life for me,”
He was dangerous, but I had never felt safer than when I was with him. He was dead, but I’d never felt more alive than when he touched me. He was temporary, and yet nothing else had ever felt so permanent. “But what good is the promise of a pirate?” I asked, the edges of my lips forming a smirk. “A pirate's word is everything when it involves his treasure,” he whispered, leaning closer to me. Treasure?
He had communicated enough to me with his touch alone.
