But we all have issues—if you don’t think you have issues, that’s your issue! So we all need to be in a community with other followers of Jesus where we can be known, do life together, and encourage one another in our faith. “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near” (Hebrews 10:24–25 NLT).
Have you any days of fasting and prayer? Storm the throne of grace and persevere therein, and mercy will come down. —John Wesley
Prayer is reaching out after the unseen; fasting is letting go of all that is seen and temporal. —Andrew Murray
Simply put, fasting is about less of us and more of God.
The goal is not starvation or physical death but a fuller life in which bodily desires are properly ordered beneath spiritual desire for God.
Whatever you starve dies. Whatever you feed thrives.
I became my own only when I gave myself to Another. —C. S. Lewis
What we put first or do first communicates priority.
When you give God your first through prayer and fasting, you set the course for your life. Fasting one day a week sets the direction for each week. Fasting at the beginning of a new month or new year sets the course for the rest of that time period. Fasting redirects your attention to the most important priority in your life: your relationship with God.
Remember, fasting disconnects you from worldly things so you can connect to that which is eternal.
Our seasons of fasting and prayer at the Tabernacle have been high days indeed; never has heaven’s gate stood wider; never have our hearts been nearer the central glory. —Charles Spurgeon
Pray often; for prayer is a shield to the soul . . . a sacrifice to God, and a scourge for Satan. —John Bunyan
God never intended for life and ministry to be based purely in our natural world. We need miracles, signs, and wonders to create touchpoints to the spiritual realm. We need a daily outpouring of the Holy Spirit to empower everything we do. Prayer is the bridge to living in the spiritual world and unleashing God’s power in our lives.
