When reading a new book, I try to approach it with a “consume once, remember twice” mindset. I aim to put in some work the first time round, so if I ever have to reference the material in the future, I don’t have to consume the entire book again or research summaries. I can just reference my personal notes.

Forcing yourself to read a book you aren’t interested in will totally discourage you from reading. I would rather put down a book and maintain my reading habit than force myself to read something I don’t like. We only have so much time and energy in us. There’s virtually an unlimited number of books available in today’s world. I think Naval Ravikant says it best: “If it doesn’t grab my attention within the first chapter in a meaningful, positive way, I’ll either drop the book or skip ahead a few chapters.
