“Kalen,” I whispered as he angled his sword at the monster. “It looks like it wants to eat me.” “Don’t worry,” he said in a low growl. “It would have to kill me before I would let it take you from me.”
“Who did that to your back?” I growled, unable to stop myself. It wasn’t the first thing I’d meant to say to her, but the thought of him digging his blade through her like that…if only I could cross that fucking bridge and stab the Mortal Blade into his heart myself.
“You’re right. I do bite sometimes. But I wouldn’t do it to you. Unless you asked.”
“I don’t want to run from you.”
