The smirk tugging at my lips is almost impossible to smother, but I do my best to train my face into a polite smile. Emerson, or Em as her father called her, is eye fucking me six ways from Sunday.
I’ve known Rayne Saint James for less than a day, but I can already see him for exactly what he is, a drug I can’t afford to get addicted to.
I’m too attached to her already, and I don’t know if she’ll be able to handle being the object of my obsessions. Too bad she doesn’t have a say in the matter.
“I’m the person that will break every bone in your body if you ever touch Emerson again. Get the fuck out of here before I lose my patience.”
I want to hold her against me for as long as I can as she leans on me for comfort. I can’t say anyone has ever done that before. I’m not the comforting type, in fact, my family would probably argue the opposite.
The club where she works late at night is a bigger problem though. Why she needs three jobs while she’s studying is beyond me, and it’s going to stop the moment she’s mine, but the club will be the first one to go.
“Because you’re mine, and I don’t take kindly to people touching what doesn’t belong to them.”
“When I ask a question, my sweet girl, I expect an answer, especially when it’s about your health and safety.”
Emerson and I could come together like thunder and lightning, or like moths to a flame. I just had to hope neither of us was going to get burned.
“I can see we have a misunderstanding here, so let me spell it out for you.” Rayne grinds his cock into my lower belly and I barely withhold the moan rising in the back of my throat. “You are mine. And as part of being mine, I need to know that you’re okay. Your health. Your safety. Any danger that could come to you is my business. If that means taking you to doctors, then that’s what I’ll do. I need you safe and healthy.”
“This is my number. If that asshole comes near you again, I want you to call me immediately. If you’re sick, I want you to call me. If you’re hurt, I want you to call me. If you’re scared, or feel unsafe, I want you to find somewhere safe and call me, and I will come to you. If I find out you didn’t call me, believe me when I say, you’ll be in a world of trouble. Do we understand each other?”
Rayne Saint James is going to destroy me, and I’m going to love every single second of my own demise.
“That’s where you’re wrong, sweet girl. You may not have known it, but you were mine from that very first day. The moment I locked eyes on you, I knew I was going to claim you.” The honest words slip from my mouth of their own accord.
“Please take the money. It’s not charity, it’s not a hit to your pride, it’s selfish because I don’t want to lose you before I’ve even had the chance to have you.”
“Don’t hide from me, Emerson. Don’t ever hide from me. I want all of you, and nothing you do or say is going to change that.”
Emerson is my weakness. Already I find myself thinking about her needs long before I consider my own or the consequences, and that’s really fucking dangerous for us both.
“For taking care of me. For saving me. For killing him.”
“I will always protect you, Emerson. I will kill anyone that hurts you, and I will burn the whole fucking world to the ground if it means keeping you safe. You are everything to me, sweet girl, and there’s nothing I won’t do to ensure your safety.”
I want Rayne to possess me. I want him to claim me. I want to give him everything I am because I know he’ll always keep me safe.
I thought I deserved the happiness he could bring me. But he doesn’t care. I’m just another whore in what I’m sure is a long line.
Emerson is worried about me. She’s worried I’m going to get hurt because of her.
“I will always protect you, sweet girl. You are my life, and I don’t want to imagine a version of my life without you in it, so I will go to the end of the earth to keep you safe. Thank you for trusting me to do that.”
“I will always come for you, Emerson. There is nothing in this world that would keep me from you. No amount of security. No threat of war. Nothing. You are my woman, and I will always bring you home.”
“You are beautiful, Emerson. No amount of scars is going to change that for me, do you understand?”
