almost impossible to smother, but I do my best to train my face into a polite smile. Emerson, or Em as her father called her, is eye fucking me six ways from Sunday.
“Did you ever think, and really, this could just be my really stupid rational brain talking here but did you ever think that maybe, just maybe, you shouldn’t borrow money you know you can’t pay back?” “You’re not helping,” he growls. “Good, I wasn’t trying to.
I’m too attached to her already, and I don’t know if she’ll be able to handle being the object of my obsessions. Too bad she doesn’t have a say in the matter.
“I’m the person that will break every bone in your body if you ever touch Emerson again. Get the fuck out of here before I lose my patience.”
“Because you’re mine, and I don’t take kindly to people touching what doesn’t belong to them.”
“When I ask a question, my sweet girl, I expect an answer, especially when it’s about your health and safety.”
“Now are you done, sweet girl?” I whisper into the space between us. “Can you put the claws away so I can make sure you’re not hurt anywhere else?”
“I can see we have a misunderstanding here, so let me spell it out for you.” Rayne grinds his cock into my lower belly and I barely withhold the moan rising in the back of my throat. “You are mine. And as part of being mine, I need to know that you’re okay. Your health. Your safety. Any danger that could come to you is my business. If that means taking you to doctors, then that’s what I’ll do. I need you safe and healthy.”
“This is my number. If that asshole comes near you again, I want you to call me immediately. If you’re sick, I want you to call me. If you’re hurt, I want you to call me. If you’re scared, or feel unsafe, I want you to find somewhere safe and call me, and I will come to you. If I find out you didn’t call me, believe me when I say, you’ll be in a world of trouble. Do we understand each other?”
“Yes, I understand.” “Good girl,” Rayne praises,
Rayne Saint James is going to destroy me, and I’m going to love every single second of my own demise.
“If you ever go near her again, ever so much as look at her from across the street, I will find you, and I will kill you.
“I didn’t mean to frighten you, sweet girl.”
“Shh, it’s okay, sweet girl. I’ve got you.”
“Please take the money. It’s not charity, it’s not a hit to your pride, it’s selfish because I don’t want to lose you before I’ve even had the chance to have you.”
“Don’t hide from me, Emerson. Don’t ever hide from me. I want all of you, and nothing you do or say is going to change that.”
“Are you sure you’re not too busy?” I ask. “Are you trying to get rid of me, sweet girl?” Rayne smirks. I shake my head. “Of course not. I just don’t want you wasting your day on me.” He sighs. “Emerson, any time I spend with you is not a waste.”
“Sleep, sweet girl. I’ve got you,”
“It’s okay, sweet girl. I’ve got you,” Rayne rasps, his voice coated in something I’ve never heard from him before. If I had to hazard a guess, fear. “I’ve got you.”
“I will always protect you, Emerson. I will kill anyone that hurts you, and I will burn the whole fucking world to the ground if it means keeping you safe. You are everything to me, sweet girl, and there’s nothing I won’t do to ensure your safety.”
“Your body tells an entirely different story. The way your breath is coming in short pants, your body is pressing back into mine, and you’re not making any attempt to free yourself. Your head wants you to think you don’t want this, don’t want me, but your body is telling an entirely different story.”
I’m not a man that allows myself to feel much of anything. Pain. Anguish. Love. Emotion is foreign to me, but the moment I laid eyes on my girl I felt everything.
“I’m not going to hurt you, Emerson. I’ll never hurt you,”
I want to be with Rayne, even if I think it won’t last. I want to be with Rayne, even if it could put me in more danger than I’m already in. I want to be with Rayne, even if the idea of being his terrifies me.
“Never run from me,” he murmurs quietly into my hair. “I can’t lose you, sweet girl.”
“None of what is happening here is a loan, Emerson. You are mine. My woman. My heart. My everything. Mine.”
“I need you to listen to me, Emerson. You. Are. Everything. Another woman hasn’t so much as stepped foot in this apartment unless I’m related to them, or they work for me. I’ve never thought about living with a woman. I’ve never thought about marriage and kids. I’ve never considered starting a war with the enemy because he threatened my woman. But guess what, sweet girl? All of those things are happening because of you. Never doubt that. Never doubt us.”
“I will always protect you, sweet girl. You are my life, and I don’t want to imagine a version of my life without you in it, so I will go to the end of the earth to keep you safe. Thank you for trusting me to do that.”
Don’t worry, sweet girl, I’m coming for you.
“I’ve got you, sweet girl. I’ve got you,”
