There is hope if white Americans can confront the true face of hate and their own complicity in bigotry, however oblique. There is hope if they can see white nationalism as a crisis of individual and collective responsibility. If that sounds kumbaya, so be it. Once upon a time, the word didn’t conjure cynicism. It summoned strength and resistance.
