“Oh, I won’t be moving in with her anytime soon. It’s too early.” “You’re seventy-one! If you wait much longer, the only place you’ll be moving into is the fucking cemetery!”
“Will he pull through?” “They just took him to surgery again. He has internal bleeding.” “Are you two close?” I place my hand on his left one and brush it slightly. His eyes are now honed in on me, and the shaking of the hand beneath mine seems to stop. “Not really,” he says. “But I’ll kill him if he dies.” I feel the corners of my lips curl up slightly. He’s coming back from wherever he went earlier. “In that case, he’ll probably be sure to stay alive.”
“Nope. It was thinking ahead. They would have turned on us at some point. Drake was already reaching for his gun when I roasted him.” “I’m sure Roman will value your foresightedness,” Pavel says while getting into his car. “Of course he will.” Based on the amount of death threats Roman sends my way when I call him an hour later, he doesn’t. My brother is unbelievingly ungrateful.
“So, you picked a fucking crossbow? Who do you think you are—damn Van Helsing?”
“You really think you can pull this off? It’s at least thirty security guards, Sergei. Plus, the guests, who will probably all be armed.” “It’s nothing a bit of C-4 can’t handle,” I say and head in the direction of the guards. “We drove all the way here with C-4 in a trunk?” he whisper-yells after me. “How much did you pack?” I look over my shoulder and wink at him. “All of it, Albert.”
