With the blood of fire fae and ruthless kings flowing through my veins, I admit I was born to inherit a legacy of violence.
“I don’t think anything could make you weak. If you let it, I have a feeling it could make you stronger.”
I burn things down when I’m at my best.
In one swift move, the djinn drops my hand and falls to his knees before me. My flames extinguish, leaving me feeling invigorated and strong. The djinn lifts his head to find my gaze. “Forgive me, my queen. My name is Fehr, and I am your humble servant. Welcome home.”
“Afraid of what? That you’ll actually enjoy your life beneath my rule and serve me out of respect rather than duty? Why, yes, what a terrifying thought.”
“Besides, I meant it. Compared to how you’ve mastered my heart, that hovering orb is nothing.”
My mate glances from me to Foxglove, then gives a resigned shake of his head. Slinging his arm over the ambassador’s shoulders, he gives him a cajoling smile. “Did you like what you saw, my friend?” Foxglove blushes deeper, eyes flicking up at Aspen as a grin stretches across his face. “I think it would be a treasonous lie to say I didn’t, Your Majesty.”
The blush I saw earlier returns to his cheeks, making me love him even more than I did before. It’s funny the little things I discover about my mate that make my affections grow. Like the fact that he’s easily embarrassed.
“Because water is the element of emotion. And the most powerful emotion of all is love, which you are no stranger to. All you have to do is open to it. All of it.”
But you’re stronger than the pain. You are stronger than you know. You’ll never see just how strong you are, though, if you don’t allow yourself to.”
my love for him releases me from the overbearing numbness
“Always and forever, Evie.” Aspen’s voice comes low and rough. “No matter how many days that is.”
we will fight to the death if we must, but first we shall fight to live.
