There are six in total. Six that could be carrying the bomb.
I gaze through the violet particles that compose each tank, beyond every layer, but I see no sign of the Parvanovae. It isn’t here at all.
Going there is a rare thing. A sacred and dangerous excursion.
You cannot take that moment from me, Evelyn. It is mine, not yours.
Despite his injuries, he snaps his teeth when a human woman tries to come near. She holds her hands out in a sign of peace, saying something I can’t hear, but Flauvis only bares his teeth. Part of me wants to go to him, shift back into my seelie form and inspect his wounds.
But there’s someone else I need to see. More than anything in the world.
No human can, neither on nor off the isle, not unless accompanied by a fae. It’s like a tangible barrier exists, one only the fae can cross. No weapon can pierce it either. Now Nyxia is escorting the surrendered soldiers onto fishing boats so we can ship them back to the mainland. They’re never coming back. Ever.”
Not a single soul, neither human nor fae, will go without knowing that Estel, Queen of the Star Court, saved the Fair Isle.
“I’m sorry I didn’t come directly to you, Your Majesty. I sensed unrest growing near parts of the wall in Eisleigh. Humans were rioting, trying to take down the stones.”
“You did well,” I tell him. “We will find…other ways to deal with rebels in the future.”
It’s love. With it comes waves of grief, chasms of pain and longing. And with it comes passion and joy. It’s what it means to be human. What it means to be fae. Seelie and unseelie alike, whether they admit it or not, feel love. Humans and fae, despite their differences, are bound by the same element of love.
I am bound by love. Its depths and shallows, streams and waves. Its darkness and light. I’m open to all of it now.
