“You know,” she trailed, I could hear the smile in her tone. “Your indifference kind of turns me on.” Heat flashed through me so strongly that I had trouble keeping a straight face. I turned to her with a glare. “You’re disgusting, you know that?” I asked. I focused on my reading, hoping that Keir would stay silent, and she was for about five minutes. But as soon as those five minutes passed, my book was ripped out of my hands and her mouth was on mine.
“What if I told you that we could pretend that you hate my kind in public”—she paused and let her other hand trail up my thigh and into my shirt—“but in private, you’re mine.”
“Do her words ever hurt you?” he whispered. A smile made its way toward my lips and suddenly the man standing in front of me wasn’t the hundred-something-year-old vampire, but a kicked puppy that was pouting in the corner after a scolding.
“What was that about?” Silvia asked from the bed. “A bet,” I growled. “To see who’s name you would call first,” he said with a smug smile.

“Oh my,” Gillard said in mock concern. “It’s me you’re going to kill, isn’t it? I knew this day would come.”
The worst part? They weren’t nightmares.
