Tarshin’s sword always made me a smidge jealous, but I always gave my extra coins to the starving kids… I wanted to save. I really did. I knew the plight of the downtrodden. I was them, and they were me at many points in my life.
This kind of character motivation does not work as an exposition dump. Without being shown through actions, it is just a false assumption.
