Perhaps, if she asked for help more wholly—not just in a passing comment, but with her full feelings—she would get the help she needed. Her friend would sense that this was a great crisis for her and be more tender. None of us wants to be misunderstood, but when we downplay our feelings, we invite misunderstanding.
