“You don’t look comfortable,” he said. “I’m grand.” Conor let out a grunt and stood. Before I knew what was happening, he’d picked me up and settled me onto his lap in the armchair. I froze for the longest moment before relaxing against his shoulder. Fuck, he was warm and smelled so good. I never wanted to get up. I’d miss this when he actually bought a couch. He curled his arm around me. “Not a word,” he said.
But I would never hurt Aurnia.
“Aurnia didn’t do this.”
“Come on,” Conor whispered as he picked up in his arms like a babe. “I’m taking you home.”
Then punched me in the face.
“Home is where you are,” he said simply.
On rainy days he held an umbrella over me.
When it got colder, he was waiting for me with a fluffy scarf or brand-new gloves.
