“You sure you’re not already pregnant?” I laugh. “No. I have an IUD. That’s basically foolproof.” Smirking, she winks. “I bet twenty bucks that thing will be out of you before the end of the year.” I can’t help but smile as I walk over to the fridge, gathering the things I need for the fondant. Warm, excited butterflies flit through me at her words. “We’ll see.”
“I don’t know about you,” Jude drawls, unlocking his car and opening the door for me, “but I could really go for a cheeseburger after that blowjob.”
“We should make one.” I’m trying to cut the penne pasta for Easton’s lunch, concentrating on cutting it in half lengthwise, like Briar told us to do. My eyes stay on the noodle. “Hmm?” I hear Silas wander over, his hand brushing against the little bit of exposed skin underneath my crop top. “A baby,” he says casually as Easton chirps from his highchair a few feet away. He’s nearly one now, and already he seems like a teenager to me.
“Would it bother you?” I ask casually, picking at my sweet potato. “If we were to have a baby… would it bother you not knowing?” Silas shrugs. “I don’t think so.” He smiles down at his food as he takes a large bite. When he’s finished chewing, he gives me a salacious smile. “Unless you’re up for having three, in which case we could all–”
“You should get your IUD removed,” I add, waiting to see her reaction. She smiles and looks at me, wrapping her arms around my neck. “Oh?” “I want a baby with you,” I whisper, kissing the spot behind her ears.
“I think I want to grow our family.” He reaches out for my hand, bringing it up to his lips and kissing it softly. “Is Lennon Rose asking me to knock her up?” I laugh, punching his arm lightly. “No. Yes. I don’t know. It’s scary… but also exciting.”
Jude gives me a wry smile. “Do you think the guys are game?” I shrug, but nervous butterflies dance around inside my stomach. “I think so. I mean, I’ve talked to them both—briefly—about it.” He grabs my hands and kisses them again. “You know how I feel about all of this, Lennon,” he purrs. “I do?” He chuckles, the low sound reverberating down my spine. “Let’s fucking knock you up.”
He finishes his coffee and sets it down. “Hell yeah.” He cocks his head. “Call your doctor tomorrow.” “Why?” I ask, my hands shaking slightly. “Because she’s going to take your IUD out… or we will.”
“Fuck, you hate it,” Jude jokes, smiling. “I absolutely love it,” I whisper. He bends down and kisses me on the lips. “A phoenix, for the princess who rose from the ashes. Long may she reign.”
I glance at Jude, who is just watching me with hooded eyes. “Fuck yeah. Let’s knock you up, princess.”
“Got it,” Damon exclaims, holding the copper-wrapped IUD up like a trophy. “I barely felt it.” I’m shocked, my mouth hanging open. “How did you–” “I always feel it,” he says slowly, rubbing the inside of my thigh. “So I just grabbed a hold of it and pulled.” Smiling, he holds up his hands again. “Wizard hands.”
“Who would’ve thought… Jude Vanderbilt… a true romantic,” I mock, and he bends down to kiss me. “I have one job,” he replies, glancing down at the space between my legs. “You better fucking bet I’m going to succeed in knocking you up this week.”
She devours the plate of food, and Jude jumps up to get her more. I realize then what the feeling is–what we’re all feeling. Protectiveness. Love. Maybe a little possession for whatever is happening inside of her. I make a mental note to ask Ledger and our other friends if they felt this way with Briar. Because all I want to do is keep her safe, and even though we won’t know for sure for a couple of weeks, I already know I’d do anything for the baby she may or may not be growing as we speak.
“You really think we’re sad about having to try and knock you up again?” Damon asks, his voice low and guttural. I twist to face him. “What if something’s wrong with me?”
