“What’s the biggest, baddest lizard you can think of?” “Godzilla,” Nico answered promptly. “Exactly.” “You’re…going to conjure Godzilla?” Wicky’s chest puffed out with pride. “I am.” Nico couldn’t contain himself. He just had to hug this man. “Wicky, you’re awesome and I’m proud to know you. Be my best friend for life.”

“Now, let’s get this straight, you arrogant jackass. You can’t compare yourself to us. Why? Because you left. You couldn’t even cut it three weeks before you called it quits and hightailed it out of there like the coward you are. You took a look at what Bel can do, what he’d be asked to do in the future, and tough Marine that you are, you decided it was too dangerous.” Spencer’s mouth opened on a hot retort. “That’s not—” “You couldn’t hack it, Soldier.”

Yes! Let him have it!

Nico frankly didn’t care what the man said, but every time Bel heard his voice, he flinched and clung a bit tighter to both him and Garen. Every time he did so, it sent a surge of overwhelming emotion along the bond.

Why wouldn’t they just have him removed from the group? Bel is more important to the mission than Spencer and is Bel is distracted the whole mission is in jeopardy.

“Davis, the order I gave you yesterday to keep your distance at all times from Mage Adams did not expire at midnight. You will continue to keep your distance from him.” She glared at him with heat. “To the other side of the boat. Now.”

So he disobeyed a direct order. Get him out of there.

“I’ll try to keep him away from you. He’s good at slipping past me every time my back is turned for more than thirty seconds.”

No way would a superior officer put up with that.

Spencer was beyond mad. Just because he wasn’t getting his way. Nico stood there like an iron wall, deflecting him, refusing to let Spencer even an inch closer.

This is clearly insubordination. No way the Marines put up with this. It’s aggravating me and interfering with my enjoyment of the story.

“Well…honestly, Matt and I always thought he was. It’s why we were so confused about why he was brought to you.”

I wish we got some kind of answer to this. Why did the magic choose him?
