“I thought I was in love with someone,” Antonia explains. Tears continue to leak from her eyes. “Love,” Scott says with contempt. He shakes his head, disgusted. “Love is worth the sum of itself, and nothing more.” Antonia stops crying and looks at him. “Exactly,” she agrees.
“They’re all grown up,” Sally says in her matter-of-fact voice. “Yeah, right,” Gillian sputters. The girls are chasing the granddaddy squirrel around in a circle. They shriek and throw their arms around each other when he suddenly jumps onto the garden gate and glares down at them. “They look real mature.”
Always throw spilled salt over your left shoulder. Keep rosemary by your garden gate. Add pepper to your mashed potatoes. Plant roses and lavender, for luck. Fall in love whenever you can.
