Winning the Minuteman II contract transformed TI’s chip business. TI’s integrated circuit sales had previously been measured in the dozens, but the firm was soon selling them by the thousands amid fear of an American “missile gap” with the Soviet Union. Within a year, TI’s shipments to the Air Force accounted for 60 percent of all dollars spent buying chips to date. By the end of 1964, Texas Instruments had supplied one hundred thousand integrated circuits to the Minuteman program.
