sometimes I suspect that the appeal was in the rule-breaking (e.g., to steal, to cut the class, to lie)—which was, itself, the sex. That lust to me was wanting to transgress beside another. To be so totally compelled. To share a truth you have to lie to tell.
In poetry then, let me say that love has been, above all things, the engine of self-knowledge in my life—and even after everything is still what makes the rest worth suffering.
