We all had thorns hiding beneath our skin—some more than others. We hid behind fake smiles and put on a show, morphing to fit our surroundings.
Those zaps in my chest turned into jolts of electricity, like lightning had struck my heart and sent currents throughout my bloodstream. Changing me. Rewriting my genetic code. Awakening something deep in my core that refused to be put back to sleep.
“I thought of you too. I don’t think I ever stopped.”
Touching him felt like heaven. Kissing him set my soul on fire.
Damned if we do. Damned if we don’t. That’s what it felt like as we stood in the forest talking to moonbeam-sparkle dude and the creep who looked like a reject from a Tim Burton movie.
Maybe that was the balance. The give and take. Knowing darkness helped you appreciate the light.
When you loved someone, they became more important than anything.
