“Damn,” Raiden said around a large mouthful. “This is hittin’ the spot. My other spot. You already hit my sweet one.”
He smelled like warm earth and summertime.
“I know,” Lazarus said, fingers sliding through the back of Alastair’s hair. Almost as though he were comforting him.
A scent then tickled my nose—like sun-warmed earth and flowers in grassy meadows. The smell of summertime despite signs of autumn all around me. I would know it anywhere. Gluttony knew it too. Knew him.
“Lazarus Angel-Boy McGee,” Clara called out from behind us. “Mind telling me why you’re not in bed?” “Angel-Boy McGee. That’s classic.” Castor snickered. “I’m gonna call him that from now on.”
“I love you more than pizza.” “I’m at the top of the list now?” “Yep.” He slid both arms around me. “And you’re there to stay.”
