“Mal, last time I let go of her they told me she was dead. The next time I let go of her is when I am dead.”
Jealousy poured over me as I met Lazarus’s gaze from the distance. A thing. What thing?
“I’ll show you twisted. Survive me. I want to play with you, Adriatian.”
“Careful, love, your demons might start to like playing with mine.”
Like that, she’d come into my world like a hurricane but left like a spring breeze.
“Good girl.”
Share your burden. Share it with the most powerful man in this realm.”
“I've come to realise that I've gained an urge to kill. Anyone that breathes too heavily near you.”
“If I say yes, will daddy discipline me?”
“That you are mine and no one touches what is mine without deadly consequence.”
“My divine and my ruin.”
fear curled every fibre of my being as I began unbuttoning his jacket and shirt to inspect the wound. He looked at me with a goodbye in his stare. Men were so dramatic.
He let out a sigh, burying his face in my hair and inhaling deeply. “They’ve made you for me, I could swear on it,” he murmured, voice full of sleep. I think they might have made you for me, too.
“Where is my missus?” he asked, looking around the room and I sat up a bit. “There she is. Scowling at me.” He grinned. “Perfect.”
“Be safe, little sister. You need all the luck there is because your ma is a wicked witch and a little bit of a nasty bitch.”
“She will come back, I know she will. She always does. From the dead, from the living. She will always come back.”
Just like that. Like she makes your world shine. “Like she is the sun and you’ve only ever seen night.”
Larg raised a brow at me. “He’s been gone for an hour.” An hour? Surely it had been more than that.
Nothing can harm you, my love. You are strong, smart and your husband is not to be messed with.”
