For his part, Irons believes the best hope for halting the invasion is to enlist what might, with a certain amount of squinting, be seen as a biological agent. What species is large and voracious enough to make a serious dent in the carps’ numbers? “Humans know how to overfish things,” Irons told me. “So the question is: How can we use this to our advantage?”
