I sleep like shit. All the witty comebacks I wish I’d said to Rhett last night run through my head like the ticker on the bottom of a news channel.
Beau: Sadly, no. You’re stuck with me forever. Don’t die out there tonight! Rhett: What if that was the last thing you ever said to me? Beau: Then I’d think to myself: if only Rhett had listened to my good advice.
Watching her sleep like a lovesick Ted Bundy or something.
“I’m just working things out in my head.” Yeah, well, I can’t say I didn’t see this coming. I knew she’d take off in the morning. All the people who I want to stay never do. It’s the ones I can’t get away from fast enough that hang around. The ones who want something from me.
“I’m against hitting women myself, but I fully support you decking your sister.” A dark laugh escapes me, and then, he hits the gas.
“What do I deserve? Do I not deserve the opportunity to tell my own story? Don’t you get it? That was my secret to tell.”
“I was wondering why you’ve been radio silent,” she tells me as she makes her way back to her seat and spreads a napkin across her lap. “Just figured you were working out the atomic bomb that got dropped at the hospital. Or possibly just saving horses left and right. Too busy riding cowboy pole to talk to me.”
