Something I’d said had frazzled Trevor. He’d been on edge since he’d seen me sitting in the kitchen, but he’d gotten substantially more nervous as we’d talked. On ice, Trevor was cocky and confident but I’d learned quickly that his off-ice personality was not the same. For being the captain of an NHL hockey team, he was quick to blush and easy to frazzle. I’d stuck to safe topics, like hockey and things to do around Nashville. It seemed like every time I veered from them, Trevor found a new shade of red to turn and I didn’t understand why. There were a lot of things I’d wanted to ask him about, like the pacifier I’d seen and the pile of coloring books that had been on the coffee table when I’d arrived home that afternoon. While Trevor busied himself getting ready to leave, I pulled my phone out and pretended to scroll through it, when in reality I was watching him move around the kitchen. Not for the first time that week, I cursed my dad and Easton. Trevor was gorgeous in his light gray suit with a dark blue sweater and red tie. It wasn’t flashy by any stretch.
