“Make yourself at home.” As difficult as the words had been to say, his smile made me glad I had said them. His parents had opened their house to me for two years and had never made me feel like I was a burden or unwanted. Just because I was struggling with sharing a house didn’t mean I needed to be rude or make him feel unwelcome. I yawned, exhaustion catching up with me quickly. I knew it was time to get to my room when my thumb started gravitating toward my mouth. “I’m going to call it a night. You’ve got to be exhausted too. I’m sure your clock is just as messed up right now.” “Thanks. I think I’m going to try to get some sleep myself. I’ll see you in the morning.” “Night.” I double-checked my door was shut before stripping my clothes off and digging through my dresser drawer to find a pair of pajamas. I settled on the cobalt blue pair with different-colored stars all over them. They looked cuter with a pair of training pants under them but I didn’t want to risk accidentally walking out into the kitchen the next morning with noticeable training pants under the snug pajamas. Enough of the guys on the team had ridiculous pajamas. Our goalie Yuri had come to breakfast at the hotel earlier in the week wearing a footed onesie, bitching that it was too cold in the hotel.
