I’d even opened my playroom up for them to put things in. Derek had been the only one to ever see my playroom before, and my anxiety had been sky-high when I’d turned the knob to the room for them. Neither had blinked an eye. Seth had murmured something about it being cool and perfect. Maz had mentioned that the animal decorations were cute, then asked where I wanted to put my bottles and sippy cups. Most. Surreal. Conversation. Ever.
I blinked. He’d spoken a complete sentence with words I fully understood the meanings of. What I couldn’t wrap my head around was how the playground balls related to hockey.
“Brax does not understand. I ask, money for thoughts.” Seth snorted a laugh. “Yuri, bud, that isn’t Brax, that’s your butchering of American sayings. It’s a penny for your thoughts.” Yuri pursed his lips. “That saying is stupid. Penny is cheap. Thoughts worth more.”
While I wanted to call out and let everyone know I was fine, I knew that wasn’t going to be a good idea. Instead, I looked up at the doctor and tried to speak calmly. “Will you please tell those idiots that I’m in here? They’ll scream my name until they find me.” The doctor shook her head. “Triage room. Why is this so hard? Every time one of you gets hurt, the rest of you act like you’ve never seen this room before.”
I also hadn’t noticed just how full my bladder had gotten while I’d been eating and was rushing a little faster than normal to get to the bathroom before doing a pee dance in the kitchen.
Infuriating asshole. It was a good thing I loved him as much as I did.
