Lowering my head, I press a kiss to her hair. “I’ve got you. Okay?” She nods, her sobs breaking my fucking heart. “I won’t let you get hurt again,” I promise.

“I d-don’t want to go to t-the hospital.” “You’re not.” I steer the vehicle out onto the road. “I’m taking you to my place.”

I watch as he takes a brush out of the cupboard, then he gestures for me to turn around.
