Letter to the reader from a very grateful writer I wrote Bright Side thinking no one would ever read it. I was an unknown indie author with no readers who said "dude" a lot and loved music, coffee, tacos, and badass heroines in books. And I thought there was nothing more badass than a positive attitude and some kindness—Kate evolved out of that. I fell in love with her spirit; it was everything I aspired to be. When I finished writing this book, my editor asked me, "What do you want people to take away from reading Bright Side?" I responded with, "The last three words. You are brave." (Because it's true, you are.) And I've discovered, in the most beautifully surreal experience that life/fate/luck has provided me these past several years since Bright Side released, just how brave people truly are. I hear from readers on a daily basis from all over the world who share their very personal stories of tragedy and triumph and perseverance and heart with me. I'm unbelievably honored to have the opportunity to be on the receiving end of such heartwarming exchanges and to have developed so many friendships. What a gift, my heart is so full—all because of their willingness to let Kate into their hearts and be affected by her spirit.
