“I have known King Rainier for many years. I did not know your name but I knew you. He did not fall in love with you again. Always, that man has loved you.”
“You’re beautiful. I don’t need to explain that, do I? I know you grew up poor, but surely you had a mirror?”
“I think I could have truly loved you, min viltasma. If only we’d had the time.”
It makes sense though, since you’re twin flames and all. The moment you stopped being an idiot, he had to fill the void.”
I’m coming for you, Rain.
“Their hearts beat with mine.”
“Gods damn, Em.” Another. “You’ve never stopped saving me.”
I have never once regretted you, and frankly, the fact you exist is what has kept me breathing.
Elora, you are—you are proof of my greatest love. My only love.”
“Kingdoms, years, and utter devastation, Rain.”
She set Darkhold on fire for you. She would’ve set the world on fire for Elora.”
I’ve been alone for half my fucking life, and it’s nothing I want to repeat,”
I fell in love with her while showing her the stars, and I’ll love her until the last one falls from the sky.”
“Your heart belongs to me, not your property,”
“You mistake me. I need you more than I’ve ever needed anyone. Staying away from you has been—“ He shook his head. “A fish without water. The tides without the moon. A flower without the gods damn sun. You are my heart and soul. You are the reason I draw breath.
He was the only one with such power to weaken me in this way, to make me feel as if I was on the edge of life and death, teetering between absolution and damnation.
“Quit that,” he said. “Quit what?” “Giving me that look.” “What look?” “Like I should be anything less than awed by you.”
“But you thrive without me, Em. Always have and always will. Me? I’m half a person without you. That’s true need.”
If I am the moon, then you are the sun, fireshine. You shine your light upon me and brighten all which is cold and dark within me. You have taught me to forgive is divine and even I, a loathsome creature, am deserving of it. I spend every moment wishing for more with you. More quiet, more talking, more kissing. Just more. If you never wish to look upon me again, Alina, I understand. But know, I am ruined for having loved you.
I just hope you know I realize now it was a mistake. I should have let it all burn. Either way is hell for me, but in one outcome, I made it hell for you too. I wish I could take it back.”
“You’re beautiful. Your heart, your mind, all of it.”
You are the only good in me.”
I loved her body in all its forms, but there was something to be said about being able to grab a handful of my favorite parts.
But I uttered nothing to her about it; I learned early on that a woman’s body was none of my gods damned concern.
“If anything, dear heart, you have ruined me.”
“I’ve never felt as if I could spend every moment with someone, and it wouldn’t be enough. As if the sky could crash down around us, and I wouldn’t care.”
If I had earned the unyielding love and the look he wore on his face, I was just as powerful on my knees as I was on the throne beside him.
