“Because you just tore apart a god with your hands, and I found that…kind of hot.”
“I can sense your need. Feel it. Taste it. You’re drowning in it.” His eyes slammed shut. “I’m fucking drowning in it.” A sharp dart of desire sliced through me. “Then drown with me.”
“Ash is what his father called him.”
“Sera.” I thought I heard Nyktos whisper my name as I began to doze off. “You were never a ghost to me.”
“All you’ve proven is what I’ve told you before. That one decent and kind bone I have in me belongs to you.”
“I feel too many things. Curiosity and excitement that remind me of what I think yearning must feel like. Need. Want,” he said roughly, his voice low. “Amusement at times. Sometimes, even anger. But always awe. I am always in awe of you. I could keep going, but most of all, what I feel is the closest thing to peace I’ve ever experienced.”
“I want to tell you that you look beautiful,” he said, his voice as soft as the shadows moving around us, warm against my cheek. “But beautiful doesn’t adequately capture what I see. I don’t know if there is a word that does. You have taken my breath with yours.”
“Thirty-six freckles,” he told me, staring ahead. “I counted them again. It’s become a habit. And I may have lied about not knowing how many were along your back. I do. Twelve.”
“I never wanted to love. Not until you, liessa.”
“Can you make me a promise?” He lifted his head, and eyes full of silver moonlight met mine. “Anything, liessa.” “When it comes time,” I whispered, “can you take me to my lake? I want it to be done there.”
