Because you just tore apart a god with your hands, and I found that…kind of hot.”
“I can sense your need. Feel it. Taste it. You’re drowning in it.” His eyes slammed shut. “I’m fucking drowning in it.” A sharp dart of desire sliced through me. “Then drown with me.”
“Did you seriously just try to run?” Nyktos’s breath stirred the hair on the top of my head. “From me? Why? Why would you do that?”
“Nektas isn’t…a threat to you,” Nyktos forced out between gritted teeth. Snapping, silvery light continued rippling through his body. “He’s…protecting you.” “From what?” “Me.”
“Do not order me about as if I’m a child.” “I wouldn’t if you didn’t behave like one.” I saw red. “You sure as hell didn’t think I was behaving like one when you had me in your bed and your fangs in my throat!” “Whoa,” Ector murmured. Fiery, silver eyes locked with mine. “Sera.”
“Heartmates usually only occur between two people whose unions are linked to some great purpose.”
“But you’re wrong, though,” I said. “The way to weaken and kill him is sitting right in front of you.” The eather intensified in his eyes. “You promised,” he said softly.
We all need someone to watch over us.” Heat crawled up my throat. “Do you?” “Desperately,” he whispered.
“Didn’t think so.” He arched a brow as he leaned against the door. “So, you’re ready for nap time? Or would you like a snack? Maybe some diced apples?”
“Daddy Nyktos is not happy,” Ector murmured. No, he was not.
I didn’t even want to know what he thought—if he saw me as someone so desperate for affection that I would seek it from someone who didn’t even want friendship from me.
“She’s likely no longer napping and seconds away from crawling out of a window, like her new friend.”
“He could’ve put you down for a nap. I’m sure Jadis and Reaver would’ve enjoyed the company.”
“You’re purposely being distracting.” “I would never.” “And seductive.” “Why would you think that?”
His hand snapped out, closing around the nape of my neck. My breath caught as my gaze locked with his. “I want to make one thing perfectly clear, Seraphena.”
“As long as you’re my Consort,” he said, his tone deceptively soft, “you will be very selective about how you spend your time with others.”
“Great. You’re following me,” I muttered. “You’re very astute, meyaah Liessa.” I sighed. “You don’t like being referred to as a Queen, do you?” “You’re very astute, meyaah draken.”
“If you wake him, he’ll likely get a bit…snappy. With his teeth, not his words.”
Forgiveness benefits the forgiver, and it’s easy. Understanding is acceptance, and that is far harder.”
“I’m always more creative when I have something sweet on my tongue.”
“Or should I say, Queen Ezmeria?” I added, bowing. “Don’t you dare do that.” Ezra snapped forward, reaching for me but stopping short. “I’m Ezra. Just Ezra to you.”
“In case you don’t know what that means, go fuck yourself.”
“If you behave, maybe I’ll fuck you instead.”
wickedly in the pit of my stomach. “I like…submitting to you.” “Fuck.”
“We don’t sit around and talk about you. We’re usually standing while doing it,”
“Fucking special Primal embers,” she muttered. “Like why don’t I feel that since I’ve technically Ascended?” she went on. “It’s total bullshit.”
“It means the deal we made? It’s over. The only thing between us now are these stupid embers. I want them gone, and then I want to be gone.” He took a measured step toward me. “Gone from what exactly?” “From here,” I said. “From you.”
I’d cried tears of blood.
“Can you wait for us in the hall?” Her brows shot up. “Do I have to?” “I would like it if you did.” “But I’m nosy.”
“Thank you, Ash.” He tensed against me. My eyes opened as my stomach tumbled. “Do you…do you mind that I call you that?” “No. Not at all,”
“You will not survive. You will die.”
