“If anything makes you feel good about yourself, then it’s not silly,” I murmured.
“Good boy,” I said quietly. “Quiet boys don’t go in the fridge.” I sounded like Hannibal freaking Lecter.
We stood there, our arms around each other. This was intimate but not sexual. And it was beautiful.
“Earth would have been nothing but a fiery, volcanic planet, rivers of lava, that kind of thing.” He sighed. “And now here we are, three billion years later, and I’m lucky enough to exist at the same time as you.”
He might not have been able to say the words on the tip of his tongue earlier, but my god, when he kissed me, I sure could taste them.
“I didn’t expect to come here and fall in love. But I met you, and you are everything I want. You are so perfectly right for me. You see the wonder in the world, and I need someone to remind me of that. You’re smart and funny, and you’re just everything I could ever need.”
