​I didn’t appreciate the way he was being so polite and considerate. At least when people are rude, angry, or belligerent, I know it’s coming from a place of honesty. It’s much harder to know what kindness is supposed to mean.

“That’s what friends do, boss. They loan one another emotional strength. Sometimes in our lives, we all have pain and sorrow. We all need somebody to lean on.”

I exist, and it’s really confusing.

I put it into words. “Forgotten does not mean forgiven.” Spencer returned, “And acceptance doesn’t mean absolution.”
