“Way,” he breathes into a watery smile. A pucker and release, just like a kiss. His mouth twitches. “Guess what?” “What?” I whisper “I love you.” I bark out a short, wet laugh. “Yeah?” “Mhm.” I clear my throat. “Well, that’s good, ’cause I really, really love you,” I say thickly. His grin widens, causing his eyes to squint. “Really, really?” I laugh, but it comes out more like a sob. He swallows hard, eyes fluttering, then barely audible, he asks, “Is it still beating?” I clench my teeth and nod, tears scalding my throat. “No regrets,” he whispers.
