The more I think on it, all I can come up with is this is my Harper. He can go get his own.
Maybe that’s what I really needed all along, someone kind and alone just like me because together, we’re not alone.
My senses are lit up like Christmas. I can only imagine what he’s feeling in the dark after being locked away without touch or companionship for two months before I came along. That’s all this is for him. Sensory overload. He’s straight, and I’m a freaking Better Cheddar. More importantly, I’m homeless, and I have my tongue in my paycheck’s mouth.
He’s…touching his lips, the lips that just kissed me, the lips that I just kissed. He’s touching our kiss, and he’s…smiling.
“How about we finish listening to that movie we started the other day?” I suggest. “You mean that romcom book?” “Yeah.” I chuckle, kissing the tip of his nose just because I can. “Are you…living one of my romance novels vicariously through me?” he asks, playfully, but I sense it’s a veil for more of his doubts. “Maybe that’s what you’re doing to me,” I tease in return. “No, Riley,” he whispers. “Nobody could write you.”
Going blind might have been the best thing that ever happened to me. It brought me Harper.
“My son came out of the womb with a smile on his face that’s rarely left it since that day, but,” she pauses, glancing into the living room with a fond expression, “I’ve never seen him this happy, truly, genuinely, bone-deep happy.” Cupping my cheek, her eyes look as glassy as mine feel. “Whatever you’re doing…keep doing it.”
“Aw, fuck. Harper. Harper, baby. What are you doing to me?” he pants. “Don’t stop. Please, don’t stop.” Fearless. Insatiable. How did I get so lucky? Tasting him deeper, his heat clenches around my tongue. Just as I reach between his legs to bring him relief, I’m met by his eager hand. “Baby, jerk yourself. Please. Want you to…come too,” he pants. “I want to picture it.”
“You taught me how to see. I honestly don’t know why God gave me eyes before you came along, because I didn’t use them for a damn thing until I saw you.”
His lips dust mine, feather light. “I realized…I love you more than I’m afraid of anything.” The brutal honesty squeezes my heart, but he doesn’t stop there. “I realized I love you more than I’m ashamed of my past. I love you, Riley,” he whispers, pressing his lips to my cheek.
