The Seductress was once said to be the Goddess of love and truth and at one time she had fancied herself in love with the Protector. However, the God had turned her away for the Huntress and that had been the beginning of the end.

The Seductress’s insane jealousy and rage over the Protector’s mate had resulted in the War of the Gods, and it was said that she went mad with power, resulting in the creation of the Crimson army. The scriptures alleged that she had gifted her soldiers with immortality for their alliance and servitude, and they would be her defense against the Protector and his own immortal army, the Lupines.

I frowned at him, anger pulling at my face. “You think that death is what I’m searching for? If that was truly my solution, I would have slit my throat the first chance I had.” Pausing, I pulled the reins, halting my horse before searching for the right words. “I have never felt like I was living for myself. I have always felt like there was something…more. So no, I don’t think it’s brave, nor do I care. I care for others; so, I will live. I will live to find the answers and save as many lives as I can. I will stop the Seductress or whoever it was who burned my home to the ground, and when I am done, I will go willingly if the Gods wish it.”

“Living for others is a painful existence, Skylahr.”

“I will live my life regretting so many of the choices I have made. But one I will forever stand by is loving you. You are the Huntress, and I am your Protector, and I love you, Skylahr Reed. I will never regret that.”
