“You need someone to bend you over and fuck that attitude right out of you.”
Since when did I care whether other men looked at Jules? I don’t. Todd has a punchable face. That’s all.
“You’re my personal hell, Red.” He gave my hair another sharp tug. “And God help me, I don’t want to fucking leave.”
But if there was one thing I was sure of, it was that I would never, ever fall in love with Jules Ambrose.
“Sweetheart, in a few minutes, you’ll forget your own name.”
Forget food and water. I could subsist on Jules forever.
“Was that a compliment, Red?” “My first and last for you, so savor it while you can.” “Oh, I will. Every morsel.”
Hating Josh was one of the core pillars of my lifestyle, along with my love for caramel mochas, my aversion to cardio, and my rainy-day pastime of browsing obscure bookstores. Take my hate for him away, and what was I left with?
“Good girl,” I whispered. “Keep those screams in, Red. I’m the only person who gets to hear how much you love my cock in that tight little cunt.”
I loved how fucking soft she was. Soft and warm and perfectly tailored for me, her curves fitting my hands like pieces of a puzzle I never wanted to finish solving.
“She understands me in a way no one else does, even if our worldviews are fundamentally different. When I’m not with her, I wish she were there. When I am with her, I want that moment to last forever. She makes me want to be a better person, and when I think about a world where she doesn’t exist…” His jaw flexed. “I want to burn every inch of it to the ground.”
When I’m not with her, I wish she were there. When I am with her, I want that moment to last forever.
I didn’t know what I wanted from her, but I knew I wanted her.
“I want you.”
“Because you’re mine,” I said against her mouth. “Let another man touch you, Jules, and you’ll find out just how easily I can take a man’s life as I can save one.”
BECAUSE YOU’RE MINE. LET ANOTHER MAN TOUCH YOU, Jules, and you’ll find out just how easily I can take a man’s life as I can save one.
What are you so afraid of, Red? Everything.
Grief wasn’t one emotion; it was a hundred emotions wrapped in a dark shroud.
Now, she was beautiful in a way that made me want to drown in her, to let her fill every inch of my soul until she fucking consumed me. It didn’t matter if it killed me, because in a world where I was surrounded by death, she was the only thing that made me feel alive.
“Do you have a favorite book?” I wanted to know everything about Jules. What she liked, what she hated, what books she read and what music she listened to. Every crumb of information I could get to fill my insatiable need for her. “I can’t choose one.” She sounded appalled. “That’s like asking someone to choose a favorite ice cream flavor.”
I didn’t know how I ever thought Jules was insufferable, because as it turned out, she was pretty damn extraordinary.
The store contained a mix of new releases and used books, and I wanted to explore them all. “Are we spending our date browsing? Because I’m fully onboard with that.” “Sort of.”
“I would start with your favorite childhood book.” “Why?” “Trust me.”
The note in the romance novel didn’t contain a clue. Instead, it contained one sentence. Jules, will you go out with me?
“The books are yours. You’re welcome for diversifying your reading,” Josh said.
“That’s…” Don’t cry. That would be humiliating, but the fact that Josh had gone to so much trouble for our date… A lump lodged itself in my throat as we said goodbye to Luna and exited the bookshop.
“Jules Ambrose, speechless. I should’ve done this earlier,” Josh joked. “Would’ve saved me a lot of headaches in the past.”
Three months ago, I wouldn’t have trusted Josh Chen if I was drowning and he was my only lifeline. Now, I didn’t think twice
I once read somewhere that the opposite of love wasn’t hate, it was indifference. The flames of hate and passion burned in equal measure.
“Take care of him as in…” Another, deeper sigh. “As in medical attention, Josh. I’m not going to kill him. I barely know him.” “Right.” With Alex, it was always best to double check.
you were in the shower for an hour. A geriatric grandmother could’ve taken care of Max in that time.”
“Ninety-nine percent of people in this world are idiots,” he said. “I regret to inform you that you’re one of them.”
“I’m convinced you don’t actually want to be my friend again.”
“I’ll send you flowers later if you’re that upset about it,” Alex said dryly.
“Because you’re it for me. Whether it’s today, tomorrow, a year, or decades from now, that’ll never change.”
But one mistake I’ll never make is letting you go, not when there’s even a sliver of a chance left for us. Because the possibility of you is better than the reality of anyone else.”
“My heart. My soul. My dignity. What do you want me to do, Jules?”
“Do you want me to fucking beg? Say the word, and I’ll be on my knees.”
“Promise me we’re real,”
Josh cupped my face with his hands. “I promise.”
“You’re stuck with me forever, I’m afraid.”
“Careful, Chen. Keep saying things like that, and I might never let you go,”
“In case it’s not clear, I fucking love you, Jules Ambrose, even when you drive me crazy. Especially when you drive me crazy.”
“That’s because you’re a masochist.” I couldn’t contain my smile. “It’s okay. I love you anyway.”
“Say that again.” “I love you,” I breathed, body thrumming, heart so full it could burst at any second. A small grin blossomed on his face. “Damn right. I’m pretty fucking lovable, unless I’m being an ass…which I was for the week after you told me about the painting.”
“Good girl,” I whispered. “I love hearing you scream for me.”
“We’re dating,” I finished. Ava stared at us with a blank expression. “Romantically,” Jules clarified. “Boyfriend and girlfriend,” I added. More silence.
would take a thousand fights with Jules over a thousand easy days with anyone else. Because I didn’t want easy. I wanted her.
“Spiderman and Mary Jane have nothing on us.” “Absolutely not.”
