In what follows, we focus on a different series of crucial moments, roughly speaking: 1689, 1763, 1889, and 1989. It was around 1690, following King Philipp’s War, that the deep story first crystallized in the form of white Protestant chosen-ness. By the close of the French and Indian Wars in 1763, it had taken the form of Anglo Protestantism. By the end of the Spanish-American War in 1898, it had become WASP Imperialism.
