Research someone who has a similar background to your own, whose life’s work you appreciate and who is a source of inspiration.
At the end of each day or week, I encourage you to check in with yourself and consider how you remained connected to the truth of who you are, as well as what made you lose sight of yourself.
An important thing to understand about post-traumatic growth is that it can coexist with distress. In other words, you can still take note of your growth, even while you may continue to struggle with your sleep or your confidence. Try not to let the challenges block your view of progress.
Be mindful of your language. It is not the rape, war, child abuse, or racism that made you a better, wiser, or stronger person. It is the ways in which you were able to manage, cope with, and heal those experiences, with the help of internal and external resources that empowered your growth.
Refuse to agree with anything that is harmful to your wellness.
