What cologne did this guy use, and would he let Danny borrow some to pour on his pillow?
This was why Gabe cornered him for brief moments at the hospital rather than coming over for a proper visit. To feel like he was checking in on Danny while at the same time controlling the interaction, able to walk away at any moment if Danny pushed him in a way he didn’t like.
But Mary hadn’t been wrong the other day—even if Danny didn’t need it, sometimes it would be nice to have someone else to take care of him for a change, even for a moment.
He wasn’t sure what reaction he was expecting, but Danny just nodded and mumbled something that sounded suspiciously like “Mr. Handsome Vampire Creep” to himself.
Danny looked tired, not in the way of someone who’d just had a long night, but in the way of someone who had been working too hard for too long with no one to take care of him. And that, Roman decided, just would not do. Ours, his demon rumbled. Ours, he agreed.
Something about the open vulnerability of it all had Roman’s cock hardening. He really was a predator.
“Delectable as in…vampire food? Or…” He trailed off. “Or,” Roman replied.
“I refuse to be scared of you just because of what you are. I work in the ER. I’ve seen stab wounds, gunshots, domestic abuse—all done by humans. Vampires don’t have the patent on violent acts. A human partner wouldn’t necessarily mean a safe partner.”
Soren made a fake retching sound, grimacing dramatically. “Blegh, Roman. There’s sweet, and then there’s saccharine. Spare us, please.”
Danny relished the hot spray of the shower beating on his back, the feel of it washing away the grime of an emotional day.
“No buts, little king. I am realizing I have made an error. I have underestimated the trauma you hold. But if you need me to tell you every single day that I am staying, I will tell you. Gladly. Often. Always. That I am yours. Forever, if you will have me.”
