We see flaws before we recognize beauty. We’re quicker to remember someone’s hate than their love. But life’s so much better when we fight with everything in us to hold on to what’s good. So please, Lis—not just for Mom, but for you—don’t let him go, not willingly. Fight to hold on as long as you can, ’cause love like his was one of a kind. But hate and disappointment will show up at every turn.
This is pretty powerful!

His words cut deep. It was the cruelest thing he’d ever said to her. She let her hand slip from his. He didn’t protest. “I’ll catch up with you later,” she said, stopping beside the truck.
Lis needs to realize and she should because she went through it, Neil is hurting and she needs to be brave and be there not act like a baby because her feelings got hurt.
Lissy was spent. She felt no closer to ending all of this than before she’d come. At first the story invigorated her, but in the end, it only served to frustrate her with its over-spiritualized revelries.
I think I'm even more confused than before myself. 😐
