That’s the irony of our obsession with talking so positively about “passion” these days. The ancients had precisely the opposite view of the word. The passions were considered very dangerous. Something to beware of. Because even when they were positive—which they often were not—they tended to lead us astray. To hijack our minds or our bodies, and sometimes both.
