In the earliest months after separating, I was still under the delusion that I was the victim. That divorce was something my wife was doing to me. That it was something she was choosing selfishly and unfairly.
She knew something was wrong. I insisted everything was fine. This is how your marriage ends.
“That’s silly. I would never ever want you to feel hurt; therefore, you SHOULDN’T feel hurt! I love you! I’m a nice person! People like me! You’re literally the only person who ever complains about me! You treat me like I’m a bad husband, but I’m a good guy!”
