And Hosea, being the man that he was, moved around his schedule so he could support her this weekend.
“I get it. I have exes too. I don’t think any of them are still in love with me, though.” He leaned back into the sofa cushions.
“Yeah, well, sometimes love and hate present similarly. You know, the whole thin line thing.”
“They think church kids are the worst ones, always drinking, and doing drugs, and having sex. And I was doing all that, but still. It’s a lot of pressure to be perfect, and no one can live up to those ridiculous standards.
“I haven’t had sex in over two years,” she blurted out. “Like with a person.” Why did she add that part? In fact, it had actually been fifteen months, but the last guy didn’t count. She wasn’t going to add subpar sex to her overall score. If there’s no big O, it’s a no go.
she stopped in her tracks. The back tire on her S-Class was flat.
he said, “That’s what makes us different. I’m always gonna look out for you. I don’t hold grudges.”
cantankerous
Scanning his face, she stepped forward. With a lick of her thumb, she reached up, wiping a speck of dirt from his cheek. The touch of his warm skin caused a fluttering in her chest as his eyes latched on to hers, holding her in place. Traces of his aroma wafted in her face, a mixture of cedarwood and basil from the cologne she’d introduced him to years earlier. Travis’s intense hazel eyes traveled back and forth from her eyes to her mouth. With her hand still resting on his cheek, Makayla absentmindedly stroked his face. Goose bumps rose on the back of her neck as he placed his hand on her

“I know you don’t wanna look stupid. But for love, you’re gonna need to drop that pride.”
Then there was his touch. The way he would take his time savoring every part of her body like it was the first time. The way he looked at her like a kid on Christmas morning when she undressed. The fact that she never had to ask; he just always knew exactly what her body was craving and delivered every single time … she missed all of it.
“I learned early on that women loved songs with begging-ass men. And they just don’t make music like that anymore.”
All she needed was a good book, a warm cup of bourbon and burnt sugar black tea, and a cozy blanket.

impropriety.
When they dated, she wasn’t this curvy. She has grown all the way up in the last five years, Travis thought, biting his
It appeared he was unaware of this frequent habit: his eyes always all over her, drinking her in.
One thing about Makayla; she was a girly girl. She paid attention to every detail: the nails, the toes, the shiny stuff in the corner of her eyes, and whatever it was that she lathered over her mahogany skin to make it look like she was glowing.
“Is that what you really believe? That I was just some bougie princess?” “Listen, I don’t blame you. You wanted a lifestyle I wasn’t able to provide, so you went out and hustled and created that life for yourself.”
He grew up poor, so he chose to save. Makayla, on the other hand, always had access to money, so being told no was foreign to her.
Slicing into his tender medium steak, he added mashed potatoes, mushroom sauce, and a piece of the asparagus stem for a perfect bite. He turned his fork, guiding it toward her, his eyes trained on her plump lips the entire time. Makayla opened her mouth, allowing him to feed her.
She was an all-or-nothing type of woman. How do you go from having all of someone to only having access to a piece of them? Makayla was greedy and never liked to share.
flummoxed.
Her skin, smooth like a chocolate confection, her doe-like eyes, her glossy peach-hued lips, inviting him in like a moth to a flame.
Undoing the chain, he allowed his hand to run down the length of her arm. Makayla let out an audible moan, which made him grab her hips and pull her backside against him.
She couldn’t help but think it would’ve been nice if he’d afforded her the same consideration before cheating on her all those years ago.
I knew in college this light-skinned, hazel-eyed bookworm was going to be the death of me.
“What did I tell your ass? That’s those unresolved issues coming back at you like a boomerang.”
Bianca was a one-night stand that turned into a lifelong connection. One rash decision at a bachelor party had changed the trajectory of his entire life. Together, they created the most special person in his world: Daisy Holmes.
Makayla wondered if she’d made the right decision leaving Travis. This wasn’t the first time she’d second-guessed the choice she made five years ago.
“Tough question, but I’ve always loved Mulan.” Makayla grabbed a green crayon. “What about you?” “Tiana.” Daisy leaned in. “You look like her.” Daisy hooked her miniature arm around Makayla’s arm. A slight lump welled in Makayla’s throat.
Cheating was one thing; maybe they could have moved past that. But an entire baby was a burden she wasn’t looking to bear.
She had never felt this level of pain. Travis was the love of her life. He was her best friend. She was so lost in him, she didn’t know where she began and he ended. What do you do when your whole world betrays you?
He’d made a choice, and choices always came with consequences.
A sudden chill overtook her with the realization that any relationship with Travis would include one with his daughter.
She’d spent far too long holding on to anger, an anger that didn’t protect her or make her stronger. All it did was keep her stuck, unable to move forward and unwilling to let shit go.
