What was the mind of the early Church? Christianity was Eastern and apostolic, not Western and rationalistic.
The Church was a Jewish movement rooted in Jerusalem and called the Way (Acts 9:2).
The Jewish leaders were performing the rituals and sacrifices required by the Law of Moses, but merely as external actions not accompanied by an inner disposition of repentance and humility. They were spiritually fruitless.
