But what if the best of modern thought is only a passing fashion of thought, a philosophy of the moment, a cultural fad? Is not postmodernity teaching us that much that was considered “settled truth” in modern thought is now questionable? This question will haunt liberal Christianity throughout this book. Could it be that by adjusting and accommodating Christianity to whatever culture requires, one is sacrificing the prophetic power of Christianity on the altar of respectability?
